It is with a heavy heart that I announce that long-time UUFF member, Christie Pennington passed away peacefully in her home during the early morning hours of Tuesday, August 8, 2023, while being held by her two daughters and son.
Christie struggled for over 10 years with a rare form of blood cancer that eventually took her life. Medications and blood transfusions made her immunocompromised, so she was unable to attend Sunday services and congregational events in person after the COVID pandemic. But she remained as active as her health allowed.
She was a dedicated member of the pastoral care team and the Internship Committee. She was a frequent participant in Adult Religious Education classes and a long-time member of the Third Thursday Chalice Group. She was soft-spoken and kind with an inquisitive mind. You could always count on Christie to offer deeply spiritual insights and to ask penetrating questions. She was also a member of the Unity Church of Fredericksburg.
Her family has expressed their deepest gratitude for all the love and care that this congregation bestowed on Christie and her children during the last few years while her health declined.
A celebration of her life will be held at the Unitarian Universalist Fellowship of Fredericksburg on Auguest 26th, 2023 at 2:00pm with a reception to follow.
