Lean into Creativity
Creativity is something that has always come naturally to me. So much so that, as a kid growing up in conservative southern Christianity, I was often told that I was “too Creative” and not practical or grounded in reality enough. I could be found lost in the music, drawing or writing poems or stories, or spending time in my journal on any given day. By 15, I had learned that being a creative type was not necessarily a good thing and that the world would judge me for it. But that did not stop me from being creative, for I could not imagine a planet or a life without Creativity. Being creative has allowed me to escape from the daily demands around me, from time to time, and has allowed me to learn more about myself and the world around me as well. My ability to lean into Creativity has saved my life, time and time again.
And so, this month, as we lean into Creativity as worship, spiritual practice, and way of life, I look forward to getting back in touch with my younger creative self. I am eager to notice what new energy, thoughts, dreams, and realities might emerge when I do. And what might happen to you if you lean into your Creativity? What would happen if you allowed yourself to be creative? If you slowed down to write, what was on your mind? Have you noticed and connected with the lyrics of your favorite song or perhaps a new one to you? Only you will know if you are willing to lean into Creativity.
