Matt officially joined the UUFF staff and crew in July of 2023; Matt Grissom has a long history with the UU Fellowship of Fredericksburg. Having visited during youth meetings as a friend and fellow traveler during his high school years, the UU experience helped inspire an interest in religions, specifically his own religious journey that helped bring them to getting a Minor in Religious Studies at VCU, with a major in English Literature.

Matt Grissom grew up originally within the ELCA Lutheran synod, going to church in downtown Fredericksburg with thier mom until the age of eighteen. By that point, Matt was in college, where they suffered a crisis of faith, mostly from the silence that even a more liberal Protestant sect like the ELCA had towards LGBTQ+ people during that time. Finding his overall belief in a higher power also waning, Matt finally found comfort in Agnostic Humanism, believing in the impossibility of truly knowing of a higher power while working to create the best world possible for the most people possible.

Before Matt joined the staff at the UU Fellowship of Fredericksburg, they worked a multitude of jobs within the Animal Health sector. From walking and cleaning the animals to working as an assistant hospital manager and receptionist to working as the hospital manager and operations manager, Matt has worked in every aspect of the field outside of becoming a Veterinarian himself. He has loved animals (cats especially!) the entire time.

Outside of work, Matt Grissom tends to be a homebody and consummate nerd; Matt enjoys video games, science fiction, reading and experiencing good stories across all mediums, writing stories, photography, model painting, and collecting (and often unfortunately just as quickly dropping) various hobbies and projects.
